Concrete for 21st Century Construction
Dear Friends....
UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) funded for a research in concrete sciences to develop sustainable high performance concrete infrastructure. Nine major Indian and UK institutes take part in that research. Probably they are in the final stages and they planned for their congress which is named as "Concrete for 21st Century Construction" to be held at IIT Delhi during 8-10 March 2011. And they are going to reveal their research findings to the public. Totally they have spent the money of 22 Million pounds for this research. The theme of this research are as follows:
1. Develop Innovative Cement
2. Develop use of local wastes as aggregates
3. Develop performance based specifications
4. Use of sustainable concrete
The institutes in the collaboration are:
1. Concrete Technology Unit, University of Dundee, UK.
2. Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India
3. Indian Institute of Technology- Delhi, India
4. Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, India
5. Dr.B.R.Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, India
6. Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, India
7. National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Suratkal, India
8. Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, India
9. SRM University, Chennai, India.
Each institution has concentrated on some specific issues. SRM university has been worked on the development of binder with 0% portland cement. They have developed concrete with flyash and ureolytic deposits of bacteria. Same way each institutes has been developed some specific techniques for sustainable concrete construction.
